There are perceptions and stereotypes programmed into certain colors and those connotations are then projected onto the objects or ideas that carry those colors.

In and around 2006, Photographer JeongMee Yoon began taking photographs cataloging the belongings of children, which also served to highlight the fact that stereotypes are programmed into these children by the choices that are made for them and that they subsequently make for themselves. The Pink & Blue Project is a photographic and sociological study of children, their things, and the associations between the two - to put it very simply.

"Pink was once a color associated with masculinity, considered to be a watered down red, and held the power associated with that color. In 1914 an American newspaper advised mothers to “use pink for the boy and blue for the girl, if you are a follower of convention.” The change to pink for girls and blue for boys... reversed the perspective on the colors associated with each gender as well as the superficial connections attached to them."
